[For Non-HU Members] Northern Studies Collection & Rare Books Booking Service (From May 24, 2023)

From May 24, 2023 onward, we will continue the booking service for Northern Studies Collection (manuscripts, maps etc.), rare books, private collections, and Sapporo Agricultural Collection.

PERSONS PERMITTED

▸ Persons who do not belong to Hokkaido University but want to use Northern Studies Collection (manuscripts, maps etc.), private collections, Sapporo Agricultural Collection, or rare books

* Advance booking is necessary for those who have already had Hokkaido University Library card.
** Booking is up to five groups per day at maximum.
*** Members of Hokkaido University can use Northern Studies Collection WITHOUT BOOKING.

MATERIALS YOU HAVE TO MAKE A BOOKING

  • Materials which you can search on Northern Studies Collection Database:
    • Manuscripts, ancient documents, maps, graphics, photographs, rare collections, pamphlets, letters, etc.
  • Materials whose locations are shown as follows on our library catalogue:
    • "Cent. Lib., Northern Collection, Manuscripts," "Cent. Lib., Northern Collection, Photos," "Cent. Lib., Northern Collection, Rare Coll., XX," "Cent. Lib., North. Stud. Coll., Rare Coll., Hokkaido Gov.," "Cent. Lib., North. Stud. Coll., Rare Coll., Hokkaido(manuf.)," etc.
    • "Cent. Lib., Nitobe Collection," "Cent. Lib., Miyabe Collection," "Cent. Lib., Uchimura Collection," etc.
    • "Cent. Lib., Rare Books"
    • "Cent. Lib., Sapporo Agricultural College"
  • * You can use materials whose locations are shown as follows on our library catalogue WITHOUT BOOKING:
    • "Cent.Lib., Northern Collection, Books XX," "Cent. Lib., Nothern Collection, Serials," etc.
    • "Cent. Lib., Northern Collection, Open-Stack Room, XX"

▸ Weekdays from 9:00 AM to 4:50 PM (materials can be offered by 4:40 PM)

Hokkaido University Library card (should be in the valid period)

▸ Those who do not have Hokkaido University Library card:
Please bring one of documents below on your booking day, or we will NOT allow you to use the library.

Driver's license, certification of driving history, My Number Card, Basic Resident Registration Card (Juki Card), health insurance card (with your own address), passport (with your own address), residence card, or disability certificate


Use/Copy/Take a photo of materials

* When the materials are damaged, you are asked to take a photo instead of copying

HOW TO MAKE A BOOKING

  • Please make a booking via booking form, email, fax, or phone call BY 4:00 PM THREE WEEKDAYS (except for weekends and national holidays) BEFORE VISIT. Booking made after 4:00 PM is to be accepted the next weekday.

  • You are NOT allowed to use the library without booking.
  • If you intend to make a booking via email, fax, or phone call, please let us know the following information:
    • Name * Required
    • Email address or phone number * Required
    • Affiliation
    • Your preferred booking date * Required
    • Your estimated time of arrival * Required
    • Materials you want to use * Required
    • Others (If you have any questions or concers, please let us know in advance)
  • Please look through our Library Online Catalog or Northern Studies Collection Database and let us know in advance which material you wish to use/read. Otherwise, we will NOT allow you to use the library.
  • We would reach out to you after checking the availability.
