Assigning DOIs to HUSCAP Content
Assigning DOIs to HUSCAP Content
What is a DOI?
A DOI (Digital Object Identifier) is a type of Persistent Identifier (PID) assigned to various types of content and is internationally standardized by ISO (ISO 26324:2012).
Assigning a DOI prevents broken links and enables permanent access to content.
Types of DOIs
HUSCAP can assign DOIs provided by the Japan Link Center (JaLC DOIs).
*DOIs from DataCite and CrossRef cannot be assigned.
Eligible Content for DOI Assignment
- Journal articles (academic journals, bulletins, etc.)
- Doctoral dissertations
- Research data
- Books and reports
*For more details, please refer to the Japan Link Center website.
Procedures for DOI Assignment
- Please inform us if you wish to assign a DOI when registering a paper.
- For doctoral dissertations conferred by Hokkaido University, DOIs are registered in bulk, so individual applications are not required.
- If you are an editor of a university bulletin and wish to regularly assign DOIs to future publications, please consult with us.
Important Notes
Content Not Eligible for DOI Assignment
- Content without full text or content such as bulletin covers and tables of contents, which are excluded from JaLC's DOI assignment scope
- Journal articles containing the publisher's version of the full text (as publishers often assign their own DOIs)
Reuse of Abstracts for Content with Assigned DOIs
Under JaLC’s membership agreement (Article 9), abstracts registered in the metadata of DOI-assigned content may be freely used by other full JaLC members and partner institutions through various JaLC services, regardless of purpose or usage method, and without charge.
Please note that abstracts may be reused.
If you do not wish for your abstract to be reused, you may register metadata in HUSCAP without the abstract. Please consult with us.
Note: Abstracts in the metadata of doctoral dissertations are not subject to unrestricted reuse.
Other Notes
- It takes approximately two weeks from the request for the DOI to become active.
- Content with assigned DOIs cannot, in principle, be deleted or made private.
[Past Notice] Abstracts of University Bulletin Papers Published with DOIs via HUSCAP Will Be Released Under CC0 (Public Domain Dedication) Starting October 1, 2022
Hokkaido University Collection of Scholarly and Academic Papers (HUSCAP) assigns DOIs provided by the Japan Link Center (JaLC) to university bulletin papers upon agreement from the editorial boards. In response to JaLC’s regulation revision in April 2020 allowing unrestricted use of DOI metadata including abstracts, regardless of purpose or profit, HUSCAP revised its regulations to apply CC0 (public domain dedication) to abstracts of university bulletins published with DOIs from October 1, 2022. From May 1, 2022, the rights processing for applying CC0 to abstracts of such papers is the responsibility of each editorial board.
Additionally, abstracts of papers provided and published in HUSCAP before the end of April 2022 will also be published and registered with JaLC under CC0 from October 2022 onward. Abstracts are created as part of scholarly communication, and we believe applying permissive conditions for reuse is appropriate.
We ask for the understanding of those who have submitted materials to HUSCAP. If you do not agree with publishing abstracts under CC0 for university bulletin papers with DOIs registered in HUSCAP, please contact us using the information below. The deadline for such requests is the end of September 2022. If no request is made by the deadline, we will consider it as agreement.
Target Publications
University bulletin papers with DOIs published in HUSCAP.
*Only the abstracts listed are subject to CC0. It does not apply to the main content or PDF files.
