As humanity faces a variety of unprecedented and complex challenges on a global scale, such as the global environmental
problems seen in the recent rapid climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic, there are high expectations for research
institutions such as universities and their researchers to contribute to solving these problems not only through conventional
specialized research methods but also through interdisciplinary approaches, and through international collaboration.
To this end, we have invited Professor Yasuyuki Kono, Vice President for International Strategy of Kyoto University & Professor
of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, and Professor Emeritus Attachai Jintrawet of Chiang Mai University to speak on the
theme of "Beyond Borders: How to promote interdisciplinary & international collaborative research to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs".
They will discuss the significance and prospects of interdisciplinary & international collaborative research, challenges and
synergies of integrating natural sciences and humanities/social sciences, and deliver a message to the next generation of
researchers, drawing on their research activities and real-world experiences.
The session will conclude with a Q&A session, which we hope will provide an opportunity for active and constructive discussions
on how researchers in the Asia-Pacific region can drive interdisciplinary research and international collaborative research and
how they can contribute to solving global issues.

近年の急激な気候変動に見られる地球環境問題やCOVID-19の大流行など、人類が地球規模で未曾有の様々な複合課題に直面する中、
大学などの研究機関やその研究者には、従来の専門的な研究手法だけでなく、学際的アプローチや国際連携によってこれらの課題の
解決に貢献することが期待されています。
そこで、京都大学国際戦略本部副本部長・東南アジア研究センター教授の河野泰幸氏とチェンマイ大学名誉教授の
Attachai Jintrawet氏をお招きし、「Beyond Borders」をテーマに講演会を開催します。SDGsの達成に貢献する学際的・国際的
共同研究をいかに推進するか」をテーマに講演を行います。
学際＆国際共同研究の意義と展望、自然科学と人文・社会科学の融合による課題とシナジーについて、研究活動や実体験を踏まえて、
次世代研究者へのメッセージを発信していただきます。
最後に質疑応答を行い、アジア太平洋地域の研究者がどのように学際研究・国際共同研究を推進し、地球規模の課題解決に
貢献できるかについて、活発で建設的な議論を行う機会となることを期待しています。
