Outline of the collection
- The SRC has systematically collected books, periodicals, and other
research materials to respond to the needs of all researchers in engaging
Slavic studies. As of March 2003 it holds about 123,000 books, 41,000
microform materials, and 1,500 titles of periodicals, the largest and
the most comprehensive collection for Slavic studies in Japan. Its collection
includes U.S. and British dissertations.
- In addition, the Library holds the private collections of George
Alexander Lensen (History of Russo-Japanese Relations), Leon
Bernstein (Russian History), George
Vernadsky (Russian and East European History), Boris
Souvarine (History of Russian Revolutions), F.T.
Epstein (Soviet and East European Diplomatic History), Henryk Gierszynski
(Polish History) and Games R. Gibson (Historical geography of Russian America,
Siberia and Russia)
- At the same time Northern Region Special Collection at the University
Library holds rare manuscripts, maps, and other materials related to Russo-Japanese
relations and the Russian Far East.
