 Student of Sapporo Agricultural College in its second year, plant taxonomist
 Miyabe was schooled alongside Kanzo Uchimura and Inazo Nitobe in the second year of Sapporo Agricultural College’s existence. After graduation, he studied botany at Harvard University, after which he returned to Sapporo Agricultural College and devoted himself to the research of plant pathology and mycology as well as engaging in educational activities.
 In 1927, Miyabe was given the title of professor emeritus by Hokkaido Imperial University. He became President of the Botanical Society of Japan in 1936, was conferred the Order of Culture in 1946, and became the first honorary citizen of Sapporo in 1949. In 1950, he was also recommended as a member of the Japan Academy.
 The Miyabe collection mainly consists of literature in fields including botany, crop science and forestry in Japan and overseas.
